Odds and Ends

This tumblr:
A collection of things I like, aka my place to be a magpie.
Expect a lot of lynxes, London, and BBC Sherlock.
Other interests include Harry Potter (I'm a Huffleclaw), His Dark Materials (my daemon should be obvious), Diana Wynne Jones' books (especially Chrestomanci), travel, Nintendo games, nature, aquariums, Neil Gaiman (yes, both his writing and him as a person), Doctor Who, and Being Human (BBC).

Me:
22, female, bisexual, demi/grey-A, senior at Hendrix College majoring in Environmental Studies (but currently taking a year off and living in Norman, OK), ISTJ, ADHD-PI.
If you want to know anything else (or just want a random conversation), my ask is open!

I don't always follow back. If I don't follow you, it's not because I don't think you're a cool person; I just don't think I would reblog your posts very often.

Gloomy places…

This actually made me fangasm a bit.

BEAUTIFUL.

I’ve started to branch out a bit in my fanfic-reading - this is His Dark Materials fic (post-series). There is some crossover involved, but probably not the one you’re thinking (at least, not the one you’re thinking if you know what else I’ve been reading recently), and I’m not telling you what it is, because I didn’t know before I read it, and the moment I realized it was fantastic. I can’t be the only person who thought of this while watching the Hound of the Baskervilles.

Rumor: IDW Doctor Who/Star Trek: The Next Generation crossover

kanenwriter:

[IT IS RUMORED THAT] in May, IDW are to publish a Doctor Who/Star Trek: The Next Generation crossover series. Featuring The Doctor, Rory, Amy, Captain Picard, Worf, Data, Geordie LaForge, Deanna Troy, Will Riker and the rest. And that this art, featuring the Doctor, Rory and Amy on the bridge of the Enterprise is a cover that will be used in the series.

The fact that this would be specifically the 11th Doctor meeting specifically the TNG cast has me very interested.

Top picture: Leadworth hospital as seen in Doctor Who series 5 “The Eleventh Hour”

Bottom picture: hospital seen on Being Human (UK) in season 3 “Lia”

Yeah, that just happened.

Here’s a post for our follower envargen, whose question we answered earlier today.

This is St Cadoc’s Hospital, in Caerleon (less than 20 miles northeast of Cardiff). It was also used in the Torchwood episodes “Sleeper” (S2E2) and ”Day One” of Children of Earth.
It is interesting to note that the hospital is “located” in a different place for all four of these appearances.

Being Human: Barry, about 10 miles southwest of Cardiff
Doctor Who: Leadworth, a fictional vilage in England (approximately 75 miles northeast of Cardiff)
Torchwood S2E2: Cardiff
Children of Earth: East Grinstead, 170 miles east of Cardiff (and 30 miles south of central London)

I think I posted something about this before, but I can’t find it, so… Here it is again! I wonder if there are other locations that are used this many times in different BBC shows.

So… now we’ve gotten rid of 3/4 of the main cast (yes, I’m counting Nina). I definitely wasn’t expecting George to be leaving in the first episode… But maybe it’ll end up being better this way. I’m not sure I’m a fan of the future plotline, especially if it ends up being some kind of paradox.

However, crossover fic writers could have a field day with this episode! First off you’ve got Michael Socha, who is Lauren Socha’s brother (she plays Kelly in Misfits). Then Mark Williams (Mr. Weasley), who it seems like we’ll be seeing more of. Then Louis Mahoney (old Billy Shipton in the “Blink” episode of Doctor Who), who will hopefully have at least a few more lines before he dies. And thennnn Mark Gatiss, which would be entertaining enough without him being Mycroft!

Being Human/Misfits/Harry Potter/Doctor Who/Sherlock. Did I miss anything? (Well, you could count Aidan being a dwarf now, I guess, which would link him back to Mark again through Martin and Benedict.)
